In prior years, the mule deer population was on the decline, primarily due to heavy predation. In 1997, the Kootenay Regional Manager took steps to increase the Kootenay deer population. Expect mule deer in the 140" to 180" class with average bucks harvested in the 150" class. This is a true wilderness hunt for those "timberline mossbacks" we all dream about.
This is a great species to hunt during your elk hunt, goat hunt or whichever as they are often found in the same terrain.
They can also be hunting alone, or with whitetail when the rut in mid-November.
